Technology for the pet world: digital innovation in the service of animal health

In recent years, the bond between humans and pets has evolved profoundly. Today, companion animals are not only part of our homes: they are part of our families. This cultural shift is driving an unprecedented transformation in the animal health sector, where technology is beginning to play a key role in prevention, veterinary education and daily wellness.

Within the approach of Imascono Health, At the same time, the health of people and animals are more connected than ever. And at that juncture, digital innovation becomes a powerful tool for improving lives on both sides.

Pets: a growing market and a shared responsibility

The data reflect the dimension of this phenomenon in the United States:

  • 85% of owners consider their pets part of the family, which demonstrates the emotional and social level of this relationship.
  • More of 94 million U.S. households live with at least one companion animal.
  • The market for pet products and services reached the highest level in the world. 150.6 billion dollars in 2024, The company is consolidating its position as one of the fastest growing sectors within the health and wellness industry.

These figures not only show an economic opportunity: they show a real need for innovation to ensure animal health care, prevention and education.

What role does technology play in pet health?

Digital transformation in veterinary medicine is not just about digitizing processes. Its true potential lies in improving three fundamental aspects:

Prevention and early detection

Technology makes it possible to anticipate diseases before they become serious. From sensors and monitoring platforms to artificial intelligence applied to the analysis of clinical data, the aim is to act before the problem appears.

In animal health, this translates into better diagnostics, continuous monitoring and prevention of chronic pathologies that affect both the animal and the family.

2. Education and communication with caregivers

One of the great challenges in veterinary medicine is that many times tutors do not understand the seriousness of certain diseases or do not follow treatments correctly.

Here technology becomes a bridge between clinic and home: visual tools, 3D models or interactive applications allow to clearly explain what is happening inside the animal's body, generating greater adherence and confidence.

3. Advanced training for veterinary professionals

Veterinary training is also changing. Today it is possible to train complex protocols without risk, without physical limitations and with a more realistic experience thanks to Virtual Reality and immersive simulations.

This is especially relevant in areas such as biosecurity, production medicine and specialized training. An example of this can be found in the project developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and USDA to train university veterinary students in the United States and Puerto Rico, which will be discussed later.

Case studies: how we apply technology to improve animal health

At Imascono Health we have been developing solutions that connect technological innovation and animal welfare for years. Some examples:

3D visualization to improve understanding of chronic diseases

In many clinics, pathologies such as osteoarthritis or degenerative heart disease are difficult to explain to caregivers.

That is why we developed applications with interactive 3D visualizations that show the evolution of the disease in different joints or in the heart, helping to understand the treatment and reinforce therapeutic continuity. This type of tool not only informs: it generates empathy and improves adherence to the animal's care.

Immersive training in high biosafety environments

One of the most outstanding projects is Virtual Experience Veterinary, developed in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim and with support from the USDA.

In the United States, poultry farms are not easily accessible to veterinary students due to strict biosecurity protocols. This limits the possibility of real-world practice during their training.

The solution was to recreate a complete farm in Virtual Reality, allowing to train every step of the process: from the initial call to sampling in a safe environment, including quizzes and interactive evaluation.

Shelter and sanitary protection technology

The same approach is also applied in the Shelter program and rescue environments, where prevention of viruses such as parvovirus is critical.

Through virtual training for volunteers, hygiene protocols can be reinforced and the spread of diseases in vulnerable spaces can be reduced.

Towards a more connected future: pets, technology and One Health

The pet world represents one of the clearest areas where technology can have a real impact: better prevention, better clinical communication and a more conscious relationship between humans and animals.

As part of the One Health vision we share in the team, taking care of animal health is also taking care of human health and global balance. And digital innovation - when designed with empathy and scientific rigor - can be the bridge we need to move toward a healthier future for all living things.

At Imascono Health we continue to develop immersive experiences, smart tools and digital solutions that strengthen the bond between veterinarians, caregivers and pets.

Because when we take care of them, we are also taking care of us.
